The Venue

Founded by award-winning wedding photographers, The Venue is a contemporary rural wedding venue. Seeing the need for a secluded high-end venue in the greater Chicago area, the clients came to Drumlin for our shared passion of the Midwest prairies and photography. Over a series of site visits, long dinners, and longer conversations we conceived a project that spoke to the client’s Scandinavian sensibilities and photographic needs. Situated on a rolling 70 acres in southwest Michigan is composed of three interlocking forms, provided multiple formals and informal, interior and outdoor ceremony and reception areas. The alignment of the structure frames views to the native landscape and sets a backdrop for perfect wedding photos. Lighting, precession, and the comfort of the brides and grooms are all considered in the configuration of each space and view. As the project readied for construction, the COVID-19 Pandemic struck, putting all weddings and the need for wedding venues on indefinite hiatus. Despite this setback, the relationship forged between the clients and Drumlin foretells many more future collaborations.
